CORPOREAL VESSEL, 2022 - ongoing
Single-channel videos, digitally projected, varying times
In 2021, I underwent surgery that resulted in traumatic complications and a near-death experience. During recovery, I began to question how the presence of a camera might mediate my relationship to my body. I started sitting in front of the camera for extended periods, filming myself as I repeated physically precarious gestures, tracking the internal feedback loop between sensation and response. These performances became a practice, an ongoing study of the edges of sensitivity. What shifts when these actions performed in solitude are now performed for a viewer? What is the boundary between privacy and voyeurism, risk and safety? What unfolds when my gaze meets your gaze?
